Overview: The Government of Alberta (GoA) was faced with a dilemma when considering what to do with the Edmonton Federal Building, which was used until 1989 as federal office space. Because of its proximity to the Alberta legislature grounds, it was determined that the location should be repurposed as a mixed-used public destination. By renovating the building instead of demolishing and rebuilding it, the GoA is able to preserve the history and beauty of the art-deco style structure. Another important benefit of renovation is its reduced impact on the environment. Inspired by this, the GoA is utilizing green building materials, like Level-Right, in order to achieve CaGBC Gold LEED compliance.
